Global Fashion School Rankings 2016

Parsons School of Design

New York, United States

Parsons School of Design is the most well-known fashion school in the United States, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Application is competitive for all courses, but particularly so for postgraduate students — with only a fourteen percent acceptance rate. The school has expanded their curriculum to include minor degrees in order to promote cross-education throughout the university. Parsons students are regularly finalists and winners in international fashion competitions. In their comments, students expressed that not many teachers focus on technical skills, and only about 65 percent of BA and MA students in our survey were satisfied with technical skills education. Careers services were rated poorly by MA students, as were Parsons’ business and marketing courses. The school has recently completed construction of a multi-disciplinary “Making Centre” designed with the most advanced, sustainable practices in digital technology and physical craft. That investment, along with Parsons’ international expansion, currently limited to a second campus in Paris, suggests Parsons’ global prestige will continue.

Student & Alumni Comments

"Parsons' biggest advantage is its location and it faculty, who are part of the industry. The student experience prepares you for what's out there, it is competitive, relentless and has its sights set on the future. "

Alumni

"Competitive but creative - encourages students to push concept and creativity. Only some professors teach very technical material but many of them are very helpful."

Student

"It has been a good experience, but being in the first year of the new curriculum has been stressful at times, as we are the guinea pigs and many of the students do not agree with the changes. I wish that there were more technical skills classes, more collaborations among different majors, more cohesion between design and technical classes, and more assistance with jobs."

Student

"From the second you enter your first class, you hit the ground running. The curriculum is fast-paced and best suits those who walk into orientation week with the mentality that hardships are inevitable. Thankfully, I was one of those people."
