Located in downtown Toronto, Ryerson’s school of fashion is the oldest fashion programme in Canada. Ryerson is highly competitive and has a low acceptance rate of sixteen percent for fashion design and fourteen percent for fashion communication programmes. All undergraduate students are required to complete four hundred hours of fashion industry internships between the second and final years of study, and third year students can apply for international exchange programmes. Students commented that the school covers technical skills well, however some of the technology is dated and lacking in conceptual content. Graduate courses are small in size enabling personalised instruction. Students were dissatisfied by careers services, which are somewhat limited by the smaller scale of the Canadian fashion industry. However, over 70 percent of BA and MA alumni in our survey found jobs within 6 months of graduating.

Student & Alumni Comments
"I think while Ryerson is a great school for instilling fundamentals and technical skills required in the fashion industry, there is more to be desired on the front of driving creativity in design."
"I really enjoy my programme and the school experience. I do, however, wish for more reasons to be specifically very proud of Ryerson's School of Fashion. I am happy to know that there are many exciting initiatives that are happening, but I hope one day Ryerson's School of Fashion will have more of an international recognition and grounding."
"Ryerson is a good school that is technically strong and challenges design students to understand the business that must accompany creativity. Though the technology is ageing and the course is lacking in conceptual content, this is the perfect place to gain technical skills and industry knowledge before pursuing a more creative masters degree."
"Very thorough technical skill base over a wide range of areas - pattern drafting in first year, product development, academic experience with theory classes, CAD, illustration, business courses etc."
