Rosie Assoulin’s Day at the Beach

The designer’s typically eclectic mix felt like a beautiful jumble of aesthetic tangents.

NEW YORK, United States — Rosie Assoulin doesn't like citing specific references. She's a research junkie, but her mind goes off on tangents. That's the beauty — and fun — of her work. However, the artist Taryn Simon and the notion of "impossible arrangements" did come up in a stream-of-consciousness conversation. It's an idea to which she alluded not only in the presentation set — filled with plastic palm trees and covered in fake snow — but also in the digitised neon florals and the mountains-meet-sand motif screen printed onto a loose white button up.

There were too many prints and patterns to mention, but the beach-chair-inspired slouchy trousers and notched-denim peasant skirt illustrated her perennial interest in relaxed, pleasurable-to-wear clothes.
