Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) Russia, which ran from Oct. 19 to 23, featured presentations from more than 70 designers in a combined physical and digital event that took place in multiple locations across Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Sochi.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions in Moscow and an imminent lockdown in that city starting Oct. 28, only guests with QR codes proving vaccination or a negative PCR test were allowed to attend events.
All shows were also streamed via TikTok as part of a new project called Fashion Week House, hosted by five renowned TikTokers.
The show calendar featured well-known Russian brands, including Julia Dalakian and Rogov by Alexanger Rogov, Masha Tsigal as well as emerging designers Jenesaq and Sasha Gapanovich.
The final day was to be marked by a special appearance from Russia’s “Red Dior”, Slava Zaitsev, but the show was cancelled due to the 83-year-old’s ill health.
International participants including Kyle Ho and Christoph Ritter Studio from the UK, Juan De La Paz from Bolivia, Cute-Saint from Nigeria and Valentins from Israel showcased their collections digitally.
The main venue was situated in the Museum of Moscow for the second time. Again, as in spring, a concurrent sustainability initiative was organised in conjunction with the fashion week, allowing participants at live shows donate their old clothes, which will then be turned into an upcycled collection to be shown at the next edition of MBFW Russia.
