The Singapore-based e-tailer, which is also active in markets like Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brazil, raked in average monthly website visits of over 90 million in 2020, Nikkei Asia reports.
The data, compiled by online shopping aggregator iPrice Group, ranks Shoppee above of rival Tokopedia, which saw average monthly visits of over 80 million. Shopee performed strongest during 2020′s fourth quarter (a promotion-heavy period), when the platform averaged 129 million site visits per month, against Tokopedia’s 114 million. The Singapore-headquartered start-up also ranks first in Google and Apple’s App Stores.
But competition is intensifying. Tokopedia is set to merge with ride-hailing and e-payments giant Gojek to create an Indonesian super-app; the two firms are reportedly planning to take the entity public.
