The end of the endorsement deal, which Nike announced in August of 2020, was prompted by an investigation into allegations that the soccer star sexually assaulted a company employee, The Wall Street Journal reported.

At the time of the announcement, the company didn’t publicly state the reasoning for the early termination, with the Brazilian soccer star signed for an additional eight years on his contract. A spokesperson for Neymar has disputed the allegations, citing commercial reasons for the split.
