After launching as a platform for Black businesses on Instagram in 2020, customers will now be able to shop from a range of goods available on the site including exclusives from Glemaud, Blackwood NYC and William Okpo. Akers, a stylist to Beyonce and Chloe and Halle, has over 14,000 businesses contribute to the Instagram page, which has 200,000 followers.
The marketplace relaunch capitalises on growing momentum within the space: over the summer several initiatives to support Black owned businesses — from the Black in Fashion Council to Aurora James’ 15 percent pledge — gained mainstream media coverage and support from large fashion corporations.
