Away CEO Stuart Haselden Steps Down

The luggage brand’s co-founder Jen Rubio will step in as interim chief executive, the company announced Friday, January 22. Haselden, a former Lululemon exec, will remain on the board of directors.

Haselden’s exit comes after a tumultuous year for the luggage maker, during which the travel industry was devastated by the pandemic. Shakeup within the company was also frequent: co-founder Steph Korey resigned as CEO in late 2019 after allegations of creating a toxic work environment, only to return as co-CEO weeks later, and then resigning again in October 2020.

“With Stuart’s leadership, Away has successfully navigated through the most unprecedented challenges facing the travel and retail industries,” Rubio said in a statement. “The company’s pivots during the pandemic resulted in strong performance over the last several months, with momentum continuing to grow.”

Haselden is leaving his role for personal reasons, according to a report from Axios. His departure comes next month. The company is working with a third-party firm to find its next CEO.
