After nearly 15 years at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chilton has resigned, according to a statement from The Met on Friday. She will remain in her current role until September 30 and will still oversee the forthcoming scaled-down Met Gala, scheduled for September 13.
After stepping down, Chilton will continue to consult on projects for The Costume Institute as she is set to establish a strategic communications consulting business.
Chilton began working at The Met in 2006 and held several senior leadership roles, including senior press officer and chief communications officer. Prior to joining, she worked at Polo Ralph Lauren, overseeing publicity for the US and internationally, as well as working as a public relations consultant and writer.
