Acid Visions at SSS World Corp

The high-low styling of Justin O’Shea’s vision is sharp, ironic and great comic relief from fashion’s all-too serious side.

PARIS, France — New dad Justin O'Shea has never been one to shy away from the limelight, so even before he took his bow after today's SSS World Corp show clutching a bottle of Dom Pérignon, it was quite clear he was in a celebratory mood. The rowdy Aussie is peddling a ballsy product, and it's not for the faint-hearted.

For guys and gals alike, SSS World Corp is an onslaught of so-bad-its-good taste, and this latest show careened down one of fashion's sleazy side streets to arrive at an acid (reflux?) vision of double-breasted tailoring meets footy shorts, lurid pyjama ensembles and plenty of diamond python. Tongue-in-cheek Australiana references abounded here, for the most part referencing the bogan (read: redneck) side of antipodean culture, with crass comics featuring stoned koalas and revved-up kangaroos peeking out from satin tailoring crawling with tribal tattoos.

If you can throw highbrow aesthetics to the wind for a minute, you'll recognise the high-low styling of O’Shea’s vision is sharp and ironic – a rash vest worn with matching silk tie was a corker, a graffiti'd shearling too - and great comic relief from fashion’s all-too serious side.
