LONDON, United Kingdom — What's remarkable about Roksanda Ilincic is the way she works with colour: an idiosyncratic, artistic sensibility allows her to mix lustrous, plump hues with poignant delicacy. What might sound heavy on paper — burgundy plus aubergine plus pale pink, for summer - comes across as weightless in her hands.
The same does not always apply to the form she creates, however. Sometimes Roksanda gets a bit carried away by the virtuosity of cutting and draping. The collection she presented today in a raw space at 180 Strand with a powder pink background revolved mostly around dresses — sliced, layered and worked on the bias — and faultless tailoring. Sometimes the silhouettes had something clumsy about them, but all in all this was a consistent, assured and very charming outing.
