OXFORDSHIRE, United Kingdom — "I am the least likely meditation teacher that you'll ever imagine, because I'm a sceptic," said Bob Roth, executive director of the David Lynch Foundation in December at VOICES, BoF's new annual gathering for big thinkers. "If I'm going to meditate, I want to be sure that it works."
There is scientific evidence of the power of meditation to heal and transform, explained Roth, and that has never been more necessary than it is today.
"The problem of stress is so huge — it's the Bubonic Plague of the 21st century," he said. "Modern medicine has no magic pill."
Given that his audience comprised of leaders in fashion, Roth focused his attention on what meditation could do to address specific issues within the industry.

"How can we all cope with fashion’s relentless pace since it is unlikely to slow down any time soon?" he asked. "The people I love teaching the most are people in the fashion industry."
Roth concluded his session by asking members of the audience to take a moment to feel their pulses.
"Meditation requires no belief, no philosophy, no change in lifestyle," he said. "The reason we do it is not to escape but because it’s what we take with us out into life."
