Vogue Ukraine Returns to Print

Over a year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Vogue Ukraine is back in print with a new commemorative issue. Called “The Road of Unbreakable,” it features 50 different profiles of prominent Ukrainian individuals in its portfolio titled “Heroes.” According to the magazine, the edition was created to celebrate Ukraine’s “remarkable people” and their “invaluable contribution to the collective resistance.”

On the cover is an abstract blue and yellow image by Kyiv-based photographer Vasylyna Vrublevska. Inside the issue, rather than models and celebrities, the magazine shows photos of humanitarian aid warehouses and desolate villages in Ukraine. The issue contains an interview with Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska, in which she discusses the war and its impact on the country’s citizens. Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s head of intelligence, minister of foreign affairs Dmytro Kuleba and Serhii Kyslytsa, Ukraine’s representative to the United Nations, are also included.

In March of last year, Vogue parent company Condé Nast announced it would cease production of all seven of its Russian publications, including Russian Vogue, in response to Russia’s rising censorship laws.

Following this issue, Vogue Ukraine aims to be published on a quarterly basis. The issue is set to be formally unveiled at a group exhibition of Ukrainian artists titled “Art on the Battlefield” in Vienna.
