América González is a Venezuelan medical student-turned-model whose accolades include being chosen by Vogue as one of the 10 breakout models of the Spring/Summer 2022 season, appearances in editorials for i-D, Vogue and its international editions as well as appearing on the cover of Vogue Mexico.
Before they were a model, González was a medical student at the Central University of Venezuela. Encouraged by their sister, they attended a local casting where they met stylist Tata Hellmund. Despite their initial shyness, an agent from Spain saw their potential and took them to Europe.
Their debut in Milan walking for Angel Chen marked the beginning of their career, and they walked for Dries van Noten in their first season. A missed casting for Dior due to a train delay didn't deter them: they eventually walked for the brand in its Autumn/Winter 2022 show.
Since then, they have walked more than 100 shows for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors , The Row and Fendi.
Pausing their plans to become a doctor, Gonzalez paid their way from South America to Milan to pursue their modelling dream with a crowdfunding fundraiser and loans from their mother and other family members.
“It wasn’t easy, but without their help, I simply wouldn’t be here today,” they told British Vogue.
