Bad Bunny

Musician

The Puerto Rican rapper and reggaeton superstar changed the shape of pop, combining genre-bending sound with gender-fluid style.

Biography

Puerto Rican rapper and reggaeton superstar Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, is one of the world’s most streamed music artist.

His blend of musical styles has turned him into a global phenomenon, brought Latin music to the global mainstream and changed the shape of pop, combining genre-bending sound with gender-fluid style.

At times the musician has used style to make a political statement, making headlines in 2020 after going on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” wearing a skirt and T-shirt drawing attention to the recent murder of a Puerto Rican trans woman.

His fashion icon status has been cemented by collaborations with brands including Adidas and Jacquemus, who dressed the artist for the 2023 Met Gala after running a campaign featuring Bad Bunny in a pink dress and pastel blue mules.

“What’s fundamental is that Bad Bunny is brave. He has a very different way of expressing urban culture with a visual punch and that is strengthened by the way he embraces diverse social groups,” fashion editor José Forteza told CNN in 2019.
