Biography

Dato’ Farah Khan is the founder and president of Malaysia’s leading luxury retailer, The Melium Group, and creative director of her eponymous label, Farah Khan. A towering figure in Malaysia, Khan is a regular on the high society scene and is respected for her big business network as well as her own formidable retail empire.

The Melium Group is one of the biggest retail powerhouses in Malaysia and distributes more than 100 international luxury fashion brands including Givenchy, Saint Laurent and Tod’s. Noticing that Malaysian consumers had become more savvy in their purchasing habits, Khan introduced mixed-brand stores like Aseana and M Store that stock labels such as Balmain, Victoria Beckham and Mary Katrantzou .

Khan set up her first boutique, The Link, in the Mandarin Hotel in Singapore in 1974 that sold Italian and British labels such as Genny and Jean Muir. After selling the boutique and moving to Kuala Lumpur, Khan set up her first multi-label fashion boutique in the early 1980s. As a result of its success, she launched The Melium Group in 1989. Today, the Melium Group operates over 40 stores in Malaysia.

Khan’s namesake label was launched in 2007; it marries intricate Southeast Asian beadwork with casual-contemporary silhouettes and its celebrated for its timeless glamour and practicality. A pioneering businesswoman, Khan has put her high-powered network to a good cause, organising a number of charity auctions and events.

In August 2019, KL Fashion Week highlighted a showcase of Melium’s 30 years of diversity in womenswear and menswear, also commemorating three decades of The Melium Group.
