Laila Gohar is an artist whose ability to transform food into captivating visual narratives has positioned her as a sought-after collaborator for brands like Prada, Hermès, and Comme des Garçons.
Born in Cairo, Laila's father, Mohamed Gohar, was a prominent figure in the Egyptian media landscape. Laila's early life in Egypt, attending Cairo American College and wearing custom outfits made from upholstery scraps, hinted at her future in the world of design and aesthetics. Moving to the US, she immersed herself in the vibrant art scene, and her work soon found its way to museums, galleries and high-profile events worldwide.
Gohar's collaborations extend beyond the realm of food. In 2022, she ventured into product design, launching the label Gohar World with her sister Nadia Gohar. This eponymous brand captures the essence of Laila's vision, blending surrealism with moments of wonder and surprise. Her influence in the design world was further solidified with her homeware collection for the renowned Danish design company, Hay, titled "Sobremesa." She has also created a capsule collection for Byredo and has a regular column "How To Host It" for Financial Times HTSI.
