Patrick Wing Ting Fan is the founder and chairman of Forward Fashion Holdings, a Chinese luxury fashion group with a strong retail network in Macau. Although Fan started off in Hong Kong, he made a name for himself as a market leader in China’s other special administrative region, Macau, where gambling, leisure and entertainment resorts have helped make it a shopping mecca for tourists from the mainland and wider Asia region. Also known as Fan Wing Ting and Patrick Fan, the group chairman has built a business retailing and wholesaling around 100 international brands, including Marni, Sergio Rossi, Moschino and Stella McCartney .
By 2023, the group operated 178 stores across mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan, mostly mono-brand stores. It also operated multi-brand stores under the names Um, Um Junior, Ixox and WF Fashion. The latter sold brands including Maison Margiela , Balmain, Marine Serre , Vetements, JW Anderson , Thom Browne , Jil Sander , Yohji Yamamoto . Most of the group’s stores in Macau are in key locations across the city, in or near exclusive casinos, five-star hotel resorts and major shopping malls. Under Fan’s leadership, the group has started investing in strategies to appeal more to younger customers by revamping its retail spaces to include art exhibitions, events and experiences, a move which earned it the Retail Asia Awards’ Luxury Retailer of the Year Hong Kong accolade in 2023.
