Biography

Burna Boy is a Grammy Award-winning musician from Nigeria with a loyal following across the African continent and an increasingly global fanbase. The fashion industry has taken notice of his sartorial style and woken up to the influence that he and other Afrobeats stars wield through celebrity marketing activations. Though Burna Boy has distanced himself from the label Afrobeats, a genre of popular music from West Africa and the diaspora, calling his music instead Afrofusion, he is nevertheless one of the artists helping the genre to cross over to audiences worldwide. By Sep. 2023, he had amassed more than 15 million followers on Instagram and 5 million on TikTok.

Born and raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Burna Boy (Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu) launched his music career after relocating from London, where he went to university, to Lagos. He won a Grammy Award in 2021 for Best Global Music Album for his fifth studio album “Twice As Tall”. In 2022, he headlined a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York. A year later, he became the first international Afrobeats artist to secure a number one album in the UK with "I Told Them..." That year, Burberry tapped Burna Boy for its Christmas campaign. The British luxury brand has also dressed him for red-carpet appearances including the 2023 Met Gala. Burna Boy has become a front row fixture at other brands’ fashion week shows including Kenzo. Earlier in his career, he collaborated with online fast fashion brand Boohoo for their menswear line Boohooman.
