Biography

Gary Gill is a hairstylist that has worked with brands including Balenciaga and Loewe. He is also art director of salon and mentoring platform Emotive Hair, and the contributing beauty editor at Dazed & Confused magazine.

Gill’s work is heavily influenced by music and youth culture. His teenage years were spent immersed in the punk movement in Brighton and, after moving to London at the age of 16, he became involved in the club scene. He has been a hairstylist for over 30 years and has worked in fashion as a session stylist for 15 years.

Gill’s work can be seen in the pages of leading fashion titles, including the French, Italian, American and British editions of Vogue, i-D, AnOther, W, Numéro, Dazed & Confused and Love. He has shot campaigns for brands such as Balenciaga, JW Anderson , Fendi, Loewe, Versace and Stella McCartney , working with some of the world’s most well-known photographers, models, recording artists and celebrities.

He has also headed several of his own shows for designers including Balenciaga, Vetements, Loewe, Christopher Raeburn, Xander Zhou , and is a regular on teams for London and Paris Fashion Weeks. He most recently did the hair for Martine Rose ’s Spring/Summer 2020 menswear show in London. Gill believes that education is an ongoing part of being a great hairdresser and mentors the up-and-coming talent at Emotive Hair. He is a key educator for Wella Professionals and a mentor for the Generation Now team.
