Biography

Fashion stylist Katy England is best known for her extensive work for Alexander McQueen. From the beginning of McQueen’s career, England was transporting garments, researching collections and working on show production. Since the designer’s death, England found a new collaborator in Ricardo Tisci, styling his shows, campaigns and editorials during his tenure at Givenchy. Previously fashion director of both Dazed & Confused and AnOther magazine, and now senior fashion editor-at-large of the latter, England is one of the most innovative image-makers in the industry.

She studied art and design at Manchester Polytechnic from 1984 to 1988, after which she assisted at Elle, The Mail on Sunday and The Evening Standard. After meeting photographer and Dazed & Confused founder Rankin, England was brought on at the magazine and has styled for the title ever since. One story of particular note was a collaboration with Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy that featured custom created pieces for a cast of models with physical disabilities. For the editorial, Treacy dreamed up magical worlds for the models and, for Sue Bramley who was blind, created an ornate crimson butterfly headpiece that protected her eyes. “You want the designer to be able to achieve the dream they have, to develop it and make it happen. That’s the point of us, that’s why we’re here,” she told Dazed & Confused.

She has styled campaigns for Jil Sander , Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Giorgio Armani and worked with major photographers including Mert and Marcus, Alasdair McLellan , Inez and Vinoodh, Willy Vanderperre and Nick Knight .
