Biography

Luigi Maramotti, chairman of Italian fashion house Max Mara, is the second generation to lead the family-owned business. Maramotti has been at the helm of the company since the passing of his father and founder of the company Achille Maramotti in 2005 and has overseen the company’s expansion into markets like China, Russia, India and Brazil.

The privately-owned company reported revenues of €1.34 billion in 2014, the last year it made its financial results public, and Maramotti said in an interview that in 2015, sales increased in the single digits across all of the 100 countries it operates in. Italy, which accounts for 40 percent of sales, posted growth for the first time.

Maramotti keeps the company a family affair, helped by his brother Ignazio and sister Ludovica in running the business. The three have said they aim to continue their father's ethos of providing high-quality and design-forward clothing.

Over the years Maramotti, whose company's headquarters remain in Italy, has established a number of prizes including the Max Mara Art Prize for Women, which was founded in 2005 in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery, and the Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future Award, which was founded the following year by Maramotti.

Additionally. Maramotti is keen to support young talent and the company has worked closely with universities like the Royal College of Art and Kingston University in continuing to help with education and training students.
