Biography
Journalist and freelance stylist Misha Janette attracted attention for her avant-garde style blog Tokyo Fashion Diaries. Written in both Japanese and English, the blog quickly gathered a strong following for its fashion-forward posts on Japanese streetwear and designers and, in 2011, was named Top Tokyo Blog by Vogue Japan.
In June 2012, alongside her blog, Janette also launched high-fashion wig brand Plumb, operated through her company Totteoki Inc. The company sells wigs in eye-popping colours and caters primarily to the flamboyant Japanese style set.
An American native, Janette moved to Tokyo in 2004 to pursue a course at the prestigious Bunka Fashion School. While at school, she working as an assistant for The Japan Times and began penning a regular column for the newspaper following her graduation in 2007.
In the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis and the 2011 Fukushima earthquake, Janette started Tokyo Fashion Diaries. Janette joined the first new wave of bloggers like Susie Bubble, Bryanboy and Man Repeller's Leandra Medine Cohen who were showing up in the front row at fashion week and shaking up the industry.
Janette has contributed to a number of international publications including The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald and Wallpaper. As a stylist, she has worked with Nicki Minaj and Rinko Kikuchi . She has also presented television shows for the NHK World Network and has collaborated with brands including Prada, Furla and Coach.
In 2017, Janette shifted some of her focus to beauty and joined L'Oréal-owned and treasured Japanese cosmetics brand Shu Uemura as a creative consultant.
