Biography

Renowned stylist and former French Vogue fashion director Suzanne Koller currently heads the fashion department at french daily Le Monde's M Magazine

Born in Vienna, Koller trained in graphic design in Geneva and aspired to work in advertising. After graduating in 1992, Koller left for Paris where she interned at various fashion magazines for a year, including Elle and French Glamour. It was here where she met Ezra Petronio , and co-founded the creative agency Petronio Associates in 1993, which saw her working on the branding and marketing of global luxury brands from Chanel and Louis Vuitton to Prada and Saint Laurent. This was followed by the launch of culture and fashion biannual publication Self Service a year later alongside Petronio. As the fashion director of the magazine, Koller intended to bridge the gap between rising creative talent and the conservative cultural establishment in the french fashion scene and some of its early issues showcased the likes of Frédéric Sanchez and Nicolas Ghesquière.

However, in 2014, Koller left Self Service for a stint at the French Vogue as its fashion director. After leaving french Vogue three years later, Koller joined Le Monde's M Magazine taking up the same position. She has also contributed to several other publications, including T Magazine, PRINT, The Gentlewoman and Vogue Italia. She has worked with revered image makers, styling editorials for photographers including Paolo Roversi , Glen Luchford , Collier Schorr and David Sims . “When you work with great photographers, you’re looking at their imagery and what story they can tell, but also very much their complicity — when you think of a story and you can develop it together with them,” Koller told The New York Times in 2016.

Koller’s long standing career was documented in monograph titled “Red Lips, Attitudes and Other Obsessions” in 2016, which was a project she worked on with the publisher Idea, showcasing a mix of images from her career that spans over two decades at Self Service and French Vogue.

In 2019, Koller collaborated with A.P.C's founder Jean Touitou to launch a capsule collection for the french ready-to-wear brand.
