Biography
The South African-born singer, songwriter and actor has become an avid advocate for LGBTQ rights through his music videos. After releasing “Bloom,” a single directed by Vogue’s former videographer Bardia Zeinali , where Troye Sivan appeared wearing make-up and a Philip Treacy for Valentino headpiece, his status in fashion was cemented and he was cast in a Valentino campaign as well as appeared on the covers of Teen Vogue, L’Officiel Men and Wonderland magazine.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sivan’s family moved to Perth, Australia, where he was raised. Homeschooled, he began acting at a young age as well as filming videos of himself singing on YouTube, eventually amassing over 2 million followers. In 2013, he signed a recording contract with EMI Australia and, in 2015, released his successful debut album “Blue Neighbourhood,” which reached top 10 the United States. Sivan’s 2018 album is titled “Bloom” and the single is accompanied by a video, directed by Vogue’s former videographer Bardia Zeinali .
The artist’s talent and LGBTQ advocacy has caught the attention of the fashion industry, scoring him covers for Teen Vogue, Wonderland and L’Officiel, as well as a Valentino campaign for Spring/Summer 2018 shot by Inez & Vinoodh.
Sivan has also appeared in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” as a young Wolverine, the “Spud” trilogy and most recently starred in “Boy Erased,” alongside Xavier Dolan and Nicole Kidman. He has released a song to the 2018 movie, “Love Simon” soundtrack, and performed on “Saturday Night live’ is set to join the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” judging panel in the show’s 11th season.
In 2013, Sivan released a YouTube video entitled “Coming Out,” where he announced his homosexuality to his 4 million followers. With his massive social media following, Sivan has become a voice for Gen-Z, a role cemented by Time Magazine’s addition of Sivan to its list of as the “25 Most Influential Teens of 2014”.
