Biography

Makeup artist Aaron de Mey boasts an extensive client list that includes high profile luxury labels such as Calvin Klein , Max Mara, Saint Laurent and Hugo Boss . He was also international artistic creative director of makeup for Lancôme cosmetics from 2008 to 2015.

The New Zealander, who secured his big break with an i-D magazine cover shoot in 1998, has worked alongside some of the industry’s most influential stylists and photographers such as Grace Coddington , Joe McKenna , Mario Testino and Bruce Weber, and has created catwalk looks for the likes of Kenzo, Comme des Garçons, Givenchy, Dior Homme and L’Wren Scott. De Mey has also collaborated on editorials for publications including CR Fashion Book, Interview, Purple and Self Service and worked on over 70 cover shoots. In 2008, he was appointed international artistic creative director of makeup for Lancôme cosmetics, a title he held until 2015.

Despite having no formal training, de Mey was signed to the François Nars talent agency upon arrival in New York in 1997, landing the i-D shoot that served as the launchpad for his career. The budding artist, who attended the Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design in Auckland (studying painting, art history, sculpture and photography) cut his teeth working on music videos and advertising campaigns for the likes of Levi’s, Australian designer Marilyn Sainty and EziBuy, an Australian clothing retailer.

De Mey is based in New York and represented by Art Partner.
