Biography
Television presenter, fashion designer and ex-model Alexa Chung has made a career of her widely popular sartorial choices, trendsetter status and role as a muse. In May 2017 she launched her eponymous label, now stocked on Matches and Net-a-Porter, and has had a longstanding collaboration with AG Jeans since 2015.
Chung was scouted by an agency at Reading Festival at the age of 16, going on to model for teen magazines such as Elle Girl and CosmoGIRL! and worked for companies including Fanta, Sony Ericsson, Sunsilk, Urban Outfitters, and Tampax.
After a profile-raising foray into television presenting in 2006, Chung became the face of several fashion collections, from Vivienne Westwood Red Label to Oxfam’s ethical clothing line Revamped.
Shortly before moving to Next Model Management in 2009, Chung was made contributing editor at British Vogue. That same year Mulberry created the Chung-inspired Alexa bag, which was primarily responsible for a 79 percent increase in sales for the luxury brand the following year.
Chung’s fashion career has most recently extended to design and collaboration projects, such as a two-season collection at J.Crew-owned Madewell, a 2019 eyewear collection with Sunglass Hut and longstanding collaboration with AG Jeans. Her first solo design project, Alexachung, saw its inaugural collection bought by international stockists including Net-a-Porter, Bergdorf Goodman and Colette.
With acclaim spanning the industry and beyond, American Vogue’s Anna Wintour has described Chung as "a phenomenon," while The New York Times declared her "the Kate Moss of the new generation." Karl Lagerfeld has dubbed her "beautiful and clever... a modern girl."
Chung was also presented with the BFC’s British Style Award in 2010, an accolade which "recognises an individual who embodies the spirit of British fashion and is an international ambassador for the UK as a leading creative hub for fashion." She went on to win the Award, as voted for by the public, in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
