Biography
Alexander Fury is the menswear critic at the Financial Times and fashion features director at Another Magazine. Prior to this, he was chief fashion correspondent at T: The New York Times Style Magazine, fashion editor of the Independent and the Independent on Sunday newspapers.
Fury also edited Love, Condé Nast’s influential biannual magazine, for one year. He is a member of the British Fashion Council ’s selection panel for Newgen candidates, and has acted as a creative consultant for Mary Katrantzou since 2010. He held the role of fashion director at Nick Knight ’s Showstudio from 2008 to 2012.
Fury is both a fashion almanac and lexicon; the editor has a seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the fashion industry. His work is a captivating mix of highbrow reference points (“you recognise something of the Van Eyck in the drape of a cape”) and one-line witticisms. Fury is unafraid of either sharing his true opinion, or polarising the opinion of others.
Fury has written for a number of the industry’s leading titles, including Vogue Nippon, Fantastic Man, 10, 10 Men, Elle and Elle Collections.
After graduating with a degree in fashion history and theory from Central Saint Martins, in 2006 he curated the Princess Line exhibition at Kensington Palace, charting the fashion legacy of Britain’s Princess Margaret. Fury consults for various brands and individuals, including the BBC and the University of the Arts.
He received the Editorial Intelligence Award for Fashion Commentator of the Year 2014-15, and was named one of InStyle magazine’s 20 most powerful people in fashion in 2015. His first book, "Dior: Catwalk" was published by Thames and Hudson in 2017.
