Biography

As the editor-in-chief at Harper’s Bazaar Russia, Daria “Dasha” Veledeeva is leading her home country’s oldest fashion publication to produce content designed to inspire rather than instruct its readers in the realms of fashion, beauty, lifestyle and culture.

Veledeeva graduated from high-school aged 14 and studied journalism at Moscow State University. She applied for an internship at Marie Claire aged 17, where she caught the attention of its editor-in-chief Anna Barinova. Veledeeva became the editor of the magazine’s health section and eventually moved to the beauty section. In 2001, Veledeeva moved to Vogue Russia to take up the role of beauty senior editor only to become, a year later and at the age of 22, the youngest editor-in-chief of Top Santé, a women’s journal on health, beauty and wellbeing. Three years later, Veledeeva took up the leadership of the Yoga Journal, which publishes articles on the practice and philosophy of yoga. Then in 2007, she moved on to lead a new project — the launch of Grazia in Russia, which she oversaw for two years.

Harper’s Bazaar Russia, reportedly the country’s first fashion magazine, launched in 1996. Veledeeva took the helm of the magazine in 2009, overseeing both online and print publication, the latter of which currently stands at 90,000 copies a month. Since the fall of the USSR, Russia has grown to become one of the largest emerging markets for fashion in the world. The popularity and demand for fashion media titles is ever-growing, with Harper’s Bazaar Russia leading by example.
