Biography

Italian lensman Giampaulo Sgura is internationally renowned for his fashion photography, which is invariably injected with the romance and passion of his native country. French Vogue describes the photographer’s vision of women as “a balance between sensuality, femininity, and glamour.”

The photographer holds Richard Avedon and Irving Penn’s styles in great esteem, due to their focus on elegance, classical proportions and composition, three tenants that feature throughout Sgura’s photography. Sgura has shot campaigns fro Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli , Ralph Lauren , Ermenegildo Zegna, Moschino, Emporio Armani and La Perla . He has contributed editorially to Vogue Italia, Italian Glamour, GQ, Vogue Portugal, Vogue Japan and Vogue Paris.

Sgura originally studied architecture at university but soon returned to his childhood passion for fashion design that evolved into fashion photography, crediting an undeniable affinity for fashion magazines growing up. His first gig was at the Idriscalo Luna Park in Milan, shooting an editorial for the Italian Glamour Magazine. 10 years later, the photographer, now also a creative director, is based in New York. He has shot a roster of luxury and high street brands, the latter including Topshop, Mango and beauty brands such as Revlon and Biotherm. Today, Sgura cites his knowledge of architecture as a guide to establishing the composition of his shots, as he sketches every set features in his photoshoots.
In 2019 alone, Sgura has shot both editorials and other advertisements for Vogue Japan, Germany, Brazil and The Sunday Times Style magazine.
