Matthew Henson is a New York-based stylist and consultant for some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Abel Tesfaye (also known as The Weeknd) and A$AP Rocky . Henson's styling has also been seen at major events including Pharrell’s debut runway show as the menswear creative director for Louis Vuitton. He made headlines in February 2023 when Rihanna acknowledged that he was the stylist behind the black leather diaper cover sported by her eight-month-old son on the cover of British Vogue.
Henson said he always knew he wanted to be a fashion editor, growing up “with a crazy, personal obsession with clothes.” His career began with an internship at Flaunt magazine, where he quickly climbed the ranks before moving to the position of fashion editor for Complex Magazine, a role he held for six years.
However, it was his transition to freelance styling that truly showcased his talent.. Since 2012, Henson has been the go-to stylist for A$AP Rocky, and he's also a key member of A$AP Rocky's creative agency, AWGE. His editorial work has been featured in publications such as WSJ Magazine, GQ and Time.
His ethos revolves around humility and collaboration. As Henson told The Business of Fashion , "You always need to keep yourself grounded, especially stylists... the bigger picture is that you’re getting to collaborate and your work is going to be seen and appreciated by so many."
