Biography

Best known for her work as editor-in-chief of Arena Homme Plus, Jo-Ann Furniss is an honest and opinionated fashion journalist and editor. Furniss regularly reviewed key shows for Style.com (closed and absorbed by Farfetch in 2017), where her rigorous eye and practiced pen deftly unpicked fashion concepts for her readers.

Furniss’ seven year editorship of Arena Homme Plus, which commenced in 2004, saw her commission some of the best and most controversial photographers in the business, including Juergen Teller and Steven Klein . Whilst editor, Furniss continued the publication’s unabashed editorial lean, defiantly placing creativity above commerciality in her commissioning of shoots.

Prior to her appointment at Arena Homme Plus, Furniss contributed to i-D, The Face, Sleazenation and Another Magazine. She has written for The New York Times, The Independent, Colors, Dazed and Confused, Vogue Hommes International and Love.

Furniss edited "Making it up as we go along" with Jefferson Hack , an account of Dazed and Confused’s first twenty years.

In 2019, she was announced as a part of the jury for the LVMH Prize alongside names such as  Edward Enninful Linda Fargo and  Angelo Flaccavento .
