Biography
Joanne Crevoiserat is the chief executive officer of Tapestry, Inc., the New York-based company that owns Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman . Under her leadership, Tapestry weathered the upheaval of the pandemic, completed a turnaround of its flagship brand Coach and is now poised to become the biggest US fashion conglomerate with its acquisition of Michael Kors and Versace owner Capri.
Before joining Tapestry as chief financial officer in 2019, Crevoiserat held pivotal roles at retail giants like Kohl's Inc., Wal-Mart Stores, May Department Store and most recently as chief operating officer at Abercrombie & Fitch.
Crevoiserat was appointed Tapestry’s interim CEO in the summer of 2020, where she was immediately called upon to steer the company through the havoc of the Covid-19 pandemic and a bumpy turnaround at Coach. In an interview with BoF, Crevoiserat outlined a digital transformation that would enable Tapestry’s brands to better know what consumers want, and more efficiently meet those desires. E-commerce sales soared, and the group’s overall revenue reached $6.7 billion in 2022, an 11 percent increase from pre-pandemic levels.
In August 2023, Tapestry said it would acquire rival Capri for $8.5 billion, creating a combined company with over $12 billion in annual revenue. Capri’s brands come with their own challenges, but Crevoiserat believes the successful strategy she’s implemented at Tapestry can be replicated at MIchael Kors, Jimmy Choo and Versace.
“The customer is moving quickly, both in how and where they shop… and also how and where they discover brands… Their values are coming to the surface, so they want to align with brands whose values reflect their own, and this sense of authenticity in a brand is critically important,” Crevoiserat told BoF in 2023.
