Biography
As chairman and chief executive of luxury fashion and retail conglomerate JamilCo, Khaled Jamil oversees the exclusive distribution rights and marketing activities for brands such as Burberry, Dior, Hermès, Salvatore Ferragamo, Sonia Rykiel and Escada within the Russian Federation. The group operates over 140 mono-brand stores located in Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Rostov-on-Don as well as over 600 points of sale. In 2004, JamilCo became the first Russian company to become a member of the International Group of Department Stores organisation (alongside stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Selfridges) and also founded subsidiary company LVB as a division to oversee the distribution of mid-tier brands such as Desigual, DKNY, Berghaus, Aldo and Juicy Couture. In 2012, LVB was awarded Distributor of the Year at Russia’s ProFashion Awards.
In December 2018, Italian plus-size brand Elena Mirò opened its first boutique in Moscow, backed by JamilCo. In July 2019, it was announced that JamilCo signed a long-term agreement with cosmetics brand Kiko Milano for business development in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia. Kiko Milano operates over 900 stores worldwide and the partnership aims to further grow the brand.
An alumnus of I.A.E. University of Lyon and the Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Lyon, Jamil began his career working as general manager of fabric and perfume trading company Golden Star Trading in 1987. Travelling regularly to Russia as a trading representative Jamil noticed an opportunity to launch a distribution company in the burgeoning Russian market and in 1991 founded Jamilco in Moscow.
The group has since expanded its activities to operate two in-house multi-brand stores: Cyan, which stocks casual denims and jeans from brands such as True Religion and Levi’s, and St James, an up-scale menswear boutique stocking brands such as Luigi Borelli and Rubinacci. Both stores also offer own-brand labels to the Russian market.
