Biography

As president of J. Front Retailing Co., Yamamoto is at the helm of the holding company that recently shook up the Tokyo retail scene with the opening of 13 storey luxury retail complex Ginza Six — the flagship home to likes of Saint Laurent, Dior, Fendi, Valentino and Céline — in April 2017.

The 47,000-square metre Ginza Six property is the largest of its kind to ever open in Tokyo’s Ginza district; in addition to 241 individual stores, the complex is home to restaurants and cafes, a banquet hall, a 480-seat basement Noh theatre and a 4,000 square-meter rooftop garden, along with six floors of office space.

The art programme, run by Mori Art Museum director Fumio Nanjo, saw the building open with inaugural exhibits by Yayoi Kusama and Patrick Blanc. The project was spearheaded by Yamamoto with the help of several partners including Mori Building and LVMH subsidiary L Catterton Real Estate.

J. Front Retailing Co. also owns Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores.
