Biography

Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler are the founders of Diet Prada, the most feared Instagram account in fashion, which began by exposing designers copying one another, but has since transformed into a disruptive media source that provides colourful, impassioned commentary on a wide range of industry issues — model abuse, racial discrimination and cultural appropriation among others — and counts Gigi Hadid , Pharrell, Carine Roitfeld , Edward Enninful and Karlie Kloss as followers.

Liu graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007, and Schuyler attended Florida State University. They met while working at milliner Eugenia Kim, where they would comment on runway shows to each other. They anonymously founded the Instagram account Diet Prada as a joke, and by the time they both left Eugenia Kim in 2015, Liu was design director and Schuyler a design and product development associate. Liu subsequently launched a line of casual menswear called You As, which is sold at Opening Ceremony and Mr Porter, and via its own e-commerce site. Schuyler established a consulting practice.

The first post on @diet_prada was published in December 2014 and the account hit 1,000 followers two years later. However, an uptick in interest in the account came after Liu and Schuyler took a more serious tone following The New York Times’ Harvey Weinstein exposé. In the fourth quarter of 2017, interactions with Diet Prada’s Instagram account jumped to more than 500,000 — a roughly tenfold increase from a year before — and currently sits at over 1.2 million followers, populated by editors like Edward Enninful and Sarah Mower , as well as designers Pierpaolo Piccioli and Alessandro Michele . They were also signed on to Tina Craig’s newly formed agency Estate Five in November 2017.

Liu and Schuyler’s names were revealed to the public in October 2017 by The Fashion Law.
