Biography
Matthew Schneier is a features writer at New York Magazine, and was formerly reporter and staff writer at The New York Times' Styles desk. He has carved out out a strong voice in the newspaper, garnering respect for his insightful criticism and reporting on the fashion industry. Most recently, he had begun to post video recaps of the shows from New York and Paris Fashion Week and was an integral part in the team of reporters that highlighted sexual harassment allegations against photographers Bruce Weber and Mario Testino in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
Prior to joining the style section at The New York Times, Schneier worked at Style.com for nearly six years, rising to become the website's deputy editor, where he wrote reviews and features and oversaw daily news content on the website’s blog, Style File, as well as its social media output. Before that, Schneier had had stints at a number of publications including GQ and The New Yorker.
A graduate of Yale University, where he majored in English Literature, in the past Schneier has written for titles including The Wall Street Journal, Harper’s Bazaar, Slate and Paper, as well as working as a freelance stylist.
