Biography

Alasdair McLellan is a celebrated British photographer, whose emotive images speak for him through the newsstands and billboards they consistently pepper, season after season.

Born in Doncaster, McLellan’s career began at i-D magazine. He has since gone on to shoot numerous i-D covers, notably with Jourdan Dunn and Coco Rocha ; along with covers and editorials for British Vogue, GQ Style, WSJ, W and Vogue Paris. He has also photographed advertising campaigns for Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Burberry,  Margaret Howell , Calvin Klein , Palace and Supreme.

McLellan’s considerable commercial output capitalises on the photographer’s ability to capture constructed images with a candidness. He is capable of bringing out the person within the subject, using a naturally light touch and form entirely his own.

He has also lent his hand to the entertainment industry. McLellan's portrait of Adele features on the cover of her 2015, multi-million selling album, 25, and from 2016, he directed a triptych of the videos for British band The xx.

His first book, Ultimate Clothing Company, was published in 2013 and documented modern British masculinity. In 2016, his second book, Ceremony, featured his documentation in 2006 of the ceremonial troops of the British Army, while his third called Palace, published the same year, was in collaboration with Palace Skateboards.

McLellan's photography has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery and Phillips.
