Urassaya “Yaya” Sperbund is an actress and model of Norwegian and Thai descent, who has been credited with aiding the increase in popularity of Thai films within Asian cinema, and Thai culture in wider industries.
With 6.8 million followers on Instagram, Sperbund’s status as an influencer, harnessed by her style and selling power, has seen her rise in popularity among Asian luxury PRs. She sat front row at the Louis Vuitton Resort 2018 show in Kyoto, accompanied by Vogue Thailand editor-in-chief Kullawit “Ford” Laosukri, and was among the celebrity guests at the brand’s Spring/Summer 2018 show, which US Vogue referred to as her official debut as a Ghesquière girl.
Sperbund entered the industry in 2008, but it was not until she landed a role in “Duang Jai Akkanee” in 2010 that the actress began to garner her current fame and status within Thai and Asian cinema. Having attended an international school in Thailand, Sperbund could not speak Thai fluently, yet following her rise to fame, she acquired a tutor to succeed further in the country’s television and film industry. Sperbund has since featured in over 15 television series and starred in over 30 commercials in 2015. Since 2010, she has been nominated for over 100 awards, of which she has won nearly 70.
Following her international success, Sperbund has featured in campaigns for Maybelline and Uniqlo. In 2017, alongside Miranda Kerr , Jaden Smith, Catherine Deneuve and others, Sperbund starred in the brand’s Tambour Horizon watch campaign. She has also modelled for Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan. She was the first Thai celebrity to feature in US Vogue and is a regular front row figure at Paris Fashion Week.
