Fashion Design Studio - TAFE

Sydney, Australia

The Fashion Design Studio (FDS) at Sydney TAFE offers a comprehensive selection of fashion programmes that focus on different aspects of the industry, including design, emerging fashion technologies and production management. Ninety percent of students were satisfied with the school's course offerings in technical skills and 81 percent were satisfied with the school's digital innovation, although courses in business, marketing and sustainability were not rated as highly. Students were also content with the school's campus and resources. The student cohort lacks international and gender diversity - 94 percent of the students are Australian and 87 percent are female. The school is currently undertaking initiatives to expand its global study programmes in China and India with a cross cultural design programme to be undertaken in collaboration with Indian fashion school NIFT. During their studies, 100 percent of students will undertake an internship. Employability and academic reputation of the school were rated poorly, with career services, quality of recruiters and networking events scoring below average. The school is undergoing structural redevelopments, with the launch of 'One TAFE' in early 2017. It unifies the previously 10 separate TAFE institutions to better utilise government funding and resources.
