Brighton, United Kingdom

Founded in 1992, the University of Brighton is spread across five campuses with over 20,000 students. Within the Fashion program, a dedicated business studies component is taught across all courses. The student body is overwhelming female and only 10 percent of students are international. Students surveyed were satisfied with the school’s teaching of business, technical skills and sustainability, while digital technology and marketing courses were graded slightly above average. All students are required to complete an internship in their third year of study, which consists of a minimum of 27 weeks working within the industry. Students ranked their work placements the highest in our survey, with 96 percent of students satisfied or very satisfied with their placements. Students were content with the quality of their teachers and peers, as well as accessibility to alumni.

Student & Alumni Comments

"The lecturers and technicians are so knowledgeable and willing to help, they have made my time here as useful as it could be. The business aspect of the course will definitely help me in my future plans and the help of the staff during my placement year was second to none."

Student

"We were always given the resources and opportunities to join the activities that may interest and educate us. However, those things were hard to take advantage of due to the amount of stress most students go through to keep up with the work load. Other than that, the teachers went far beyond what they needed to, in order to help students get though tough times."

Student

"I was very supported in realising my creative ideas and I felt like teachers took the time to understand my creative approach. I immensely enjoyed the diversity of subjects in my course and found the teaching to be of a very high standard in all areas. The campus was a very relaxed and pleasurable environment to be in. Collaborating and networking with fellow students was the foundation of my professional network."

Alumni

"Considering the strain put upon all institutions as they are being forced to be run like a business rather than an educational service, I would say Brighton has overall coped well. Course sizes have doubled from 20 to 40 since I have attended, which has not been met with an equivalent increase in tutors, facilities or amount of high quality output."
