Cyndia Harvey is a prolific hair stylist who has worked on the runway shows of brands including Louis Vuitton, Simone Rocha and Jacquemus. Clients include Naomi Campbell , Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar. In 2021, Harvey won the British Fashion Council ’s Changemaker Prize.
Born in Jamaica, for Cyndia, hair has long represented an avenue for artistic escapism. An interest first garnered in her mother's salon in Jamaica and nurtured on the shop floor in one of London's busiest black hair salons.
In 2022, Harvey launched hair care brand This Hair of Mine with a signature product: a plant-based scalp serum, addressing a gap in the market for textured hair. The brand was inspired by a short film that Harvey made in 2017 called "This Hair of Mine," which featured a series of interviews with young women celebrating their African culture through hair.
Harvey’s knack for storytelling is also evident in her work and experimental style. Whether she's drawing inspiration from the Irish harvest for Simone Rocha's collection or invoking the memory of mothers grooming their daughters’ hair into the development of This Hair of Mine's scalp serum, her approach is deeply rooted in narrative and emotion.
“The element I value most is the way the viewer feels, the visceral connection,” Harvey said in a 2022 interview with Wallpaper. “The latter is where I always begin. Building out a story, then integrating the technical aspect into that world.”
