Shelley, Caryn and Lori Hirshleifer run the Hirshleifers luxury clothing retail company. The 100-year-old family-run business is located at the Americana Mall in Manhasset, Long Island. A centennial later, it has become one of the world’s top destinations for luxury retail.

As co-chief executives, the sisters have carried on the baton of their father’s initial business venture, tripling sales in doing so. Once a store carrying a select few high-end brands and mother-of-the-bride dresses, Hirshleifers now carries over 100 designers including Chanel, Dior, Fendi and Gucci, with a clientele of over 90,000 international customers, counts with an e-commerce site and spans women’s, men’s, streetwear and sneakers.

Jacob Hirshleifer started his career as a furrier based in Brooklyn, New York. He opened Hirshleifers with his brother Morris in the early 1900s. For generations, ownership of the store was passed along until Jacob Hirshleifer passed in 2004, and Shelley, Caryn and Lori maintained joint ownership. Shelley oversees operations and inventory management, Lori is the buyer in charge of merchandising, while Caryn oversees human resources and online sales.

Since the late ’80s, Hirshleifers has offered high-end apparel, carrying the likes of Saint Laurent, Chanel, Valentino and Armani. In November 2012, the retailer expanded to menswear and streetwear, such as Off-White and Kith, which quickly became the fastest growing arm of the business, helmed by Lori’s husband, David Sills. Today, the menswear section has grown to make up 20 percent of the retailer’s offerings. The retailer also offers special collaborations, as one of the only locations stocking Chanel’s Pharrell collaboration, and holiday collaboration with the Ladurée luxury bakery. In 2017, the retailer generated over $3,000 per square foot, and is on track to reach sales of $100 million per year by 2020.

In 2012, Caryn received the Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence award at the 25th Anniversary Angel Ball, for her charitable work including serving on the board of directors of the Long island food rescue organisation, Island Harvest and her membership of the Board of Trustees at Temple Sinai of Roslyn, among others.
