The programme launched as part of Reference Festival, a biannual event that now runs as part of Berlin Fashion Week. Amesh, the London-based label founded by Sri Lankan designer Amesh Wijesekera, will receive mentorship and support from Slam Jam, as well as PR and brand consulting services from communications agency Reference Studios.
Reference Festival’s incubator programme points to an evolving landscape of prizes, programmes and brand platforms that aim to help young brands overcome the challenges of operating independently in an increasingly complex and competitive market. New Guards Group, Dover Street Market Paris and Tomorrow count among platforms that have built businesses around bringing high-potential, up-and-coming labels to market.
This season marks the third instalment of Reference Festival. This month’s schedule, which runs until September 12, includes a mix of showcases from fashion brands including 032c, GmbH, Carhartt WIP and Ottolinger.
Editor’s Note: This article was revised on Sept. 9, 2021 to clarify the distinction between Reference Festival’s incubator programme and larger platforms.
Reference Berlin will combine fashion, art, music and technology and feature both emerging designers and big luxury players.
