Chioma Nnadi to Lead British Vogue

The editor of Vogue.com will become British Vogue’s head of editorial content, Condé Nast announced, as editor-in-chief Edward Enninful prepares to step back from the title.

Chioma Nnadi has been named head of editorial content at British Vogue, owner Condé Nast announced today, confirming months of industry chatter. The move comes as Edward Enninful, European editorial director of Vogue and editor-in-chief of British Vogue, prepares to transition to a global advisory role.

In recent years, as Condé Nast has eliminated editor-in-chief roles at most of Vogue’s international editions in a push to streamline editorial operations and cut costs, Enninful was the only editor-in-chief to hold onto his position (with the exception of Anna Wintour, Vogue’s global editorial director and longtime editor-in-chief of American Vogue.)

Now, Nnadi, a trusted Vogue veteran who has been at the magazine for thirteen years and is currently the editor of Vogue.com, will take his place, aligning British Vogue with the title’s other European editions, where legendary editors-in-chief like Emmanuelle Alt (Vogue Paris) and Emanuele Farneti (Vogue Italia) were replaced by younger, internet-savvy and less expensive heads of editorial content.

Nnadi, a London native with Nigerian and Swiss-German heritage and a multicultural outlook, began her career at The Evening Standard before moving to New Y‍‍‍ork to write for Trace, an independent style magazine. She later became style director at The Fader, joining Vogue in 2010.

“As someone who was born and raised in London, the energy of the city — its boundary-pushing style and creative scene — has shaped the way I look at the world,” Nnadi said in a statement. “Now, more than ever, it feels like a moment to look beyond borders while also celebrating the broad scope of what it means to be British.”

In her role as editor of Vogue.com, Nnadi has also demonstrated her digital savvy. “[She] has proven herself adept at speaking to our digital audience and has found ways to extend Vogue’s reach, authority, and influence across all of our platforms,” said Wintour in a statement.

The announcement comes four days after Wintour and Enninful co-hosted Vogue World London, a slick, fashion-infused stage show at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End that attracted a high-wattage crowd including Kate Moss and John Galliano, boosting the Vogue brand.

Nnadi will take up her new role at British Vogue on October 9th, working alongside Enniful until his departure next year. Enninful’s last issue for British Vogue will be March 2024.
