The beauty conglomerate announced the luxury skincare and makeup label, best known for its face oil endorsed by fashion and beauty editors en masse, will cease online operations on April 19. A collaboration with Jo Malone, another Estée brand, will launch in October.

Estée Lauder acquired Rodin in 2014 from founder and stylist Linda Rodin, who launched the concept in 2008. Since the acquisition, the brand expanded from oils to other skin and colour makeup products. Rodin is no longer involved.

The group did not give a reason for the closure of the brand, which helped ignite the face oil trend in upscale beauty, with consumers using oils to moisturise and cleanse. Today, oil is a foundational product for many indie skincare brands, including Vintner’s Daughter and Sunday Riley.

In February, Estée Lauder shuttered another recent acquisition, Becca Cosmetics, as the company prepares to recover from a difficult pandemic period.
