Kimura, currently Adastria’s executive vice president, will take over as president of the fashion group from Michio Fukuda effective May 27. Fukuda will remain chairman and director, Senken Shimbun reports.
The incoming president’s career at Adastria dates back to 1990. The Tokyo-based company, which owns 26 menswear, womenswear and lifestyle brands including Lowrys Farm, Niko And…, and Global Work, was founded in 1953 and operates 1,332 stores in Japan and 68 stores internationally.
Local streetwear brands, festivals and stores selling major global labels remain relatively small but the country’s community of hypebeasts and sneakerheads is growing fast.
