Power Moves | Another International Vogue Editor-in-Chief Departs, Teen Vogue’s New Leader

Mitsuko Watanabe steps down from her role at Vogue Japan, and Versha Sharma is named editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue.

Vogue Japan editor-in-chief Mitsuko Watanabe to step down. Watanabe, who has held the top job at Vogue Japan since 2008, will join several fellow international Vogue editors who have left their respective titles in recent months amid company-wide consolidation efforts. Before joining Vogue Japan as features editor, the media veteren worked at Shiseido, Figaro Japan and Elle Japan. Watanabe’s successor has not yet been named.

Condé Nast names Versha Sharma editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue. The NowThis editor will assume the role at the helm of the youth-focused publication on May 24. Sharma takes the job after former Axios reporter Alexi McCammond stepped down from the position following backlash over resurfaced racist and homophobic tweets from her past.

Meridith Webster appointed executive vice president, global communications and public affairs at Estée Lauder Companies. Webster will join the conglomerate from the Biden White House, where she served as special assistant to the President and chief of staff to the Domestic Policy Council, effective May 17. She will succeed Alexandra Trower and will report to William P. Lauder, executive chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, president and chief executive officer.

The Kooples artistic director Tom Van Dorpe exits after one year. The Belgian-born designer is leaving the French fashion label to focus on personal projects, MF Brands Group announced on Monday. Van Dorpe took on the role at The Kooples in May 2020 as the label looked to reposition its brand. Prior to The Kooples, Van Dorpe worked for Fenty, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss and Max Mara Group. His final collection will be Autumn/Winter 2021, and a successor has not been named.

Shu Hung joins Everlane as global creative director. Hung will lead the direct-to-consumer fashion retailer’s creative team, reporting to recently-appointed chief marketing officer Sophie Bambuck. She joins after five years at Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing where she was global executive creative director.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is Max Factor’s new global ambassador. The actor has been tapped to be both global ambassador, as well as “creative collaborator” for the cosmetics brand, according to an announcement from both Chopra Jonas and Max Factor on their respective Instagram accounts.
