Power Moves | Designer Duo Departs Carven, Balenciaga Names CEO

This week, co-artistic directors Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud have parted ways with Carven, and Balenciaga has appointed Cédric Charbit as chief executive officer.

LONDON, United Kingdom — BoF compiles the most important professional moves of the week.

Designer Duo Departs Carven
Co-artistic directors Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud have parted ways with Carven. The duo, who joined in March 2015, leave after only four seasons at the house. Before Carven, Martial was creative director of Iceberg and Paco Rabanne. Caillaudaud hailed from Givenchy, where he worked on shoes and accessories.

Balenciaga Names CEO
Balenciaga has appointed Cédric Charbit as chief executive officer. He succeeds Isabelle Guichot, who held the role for nine years and will take on new responsibilities at the brand's parent company Kering. Prior to this, Charbit joined Saint Lauren in 2012, where he was appointed executive vice president of product and marketing earlier this year.

Marni Creative Director Shift
Marni has appointed Francesco Risso as its new creative director, as founder Consuelo Castiglioni steps down after more than 20 years. Prior to Marni, Risso worked for Anna Molinari, Alessandro Dell'Acqua and Malo, before joining Prada in 2008 to work on women's show collections and special brand endorsement projects.

John Lewis Appoints Managing Director
John Lewis has named Paula Nickolds as managing director, effective January 2017. She will succeed interim lead director Dinos Rocos and replaces Andy Street, who is stepping down this month. Nickolds joined John Lewis in 1994 and currently is the house's buying and brand director.

Shiseido Americas Names Chief Information Officer
Deanna Johnston has joined Shiseido Americas Corporation as chief information officer, effective immediately. Johnston joins Shiseido from Haier Group, where she served as chief information officer of the Americas division. Before that, she held the same role at Belkin International.

Hudson's Bay Company Hires Ed Burstell
Hudson's Bay Company has appointed Ed Burstell as head of partnerships, a newly created position within the company. Burstell joins Hudson's Bay Company after eight years with Liberty of London, where he was instrumental in revitalising the brand through partnerships, including with Hermès and Manolo Blahnik.

Aitor Throup Joins G-Star Raw
Aitor Throup has been named executive creative director at G-Star Raw, following three successful years as a creative consultant to the brand. In June, the artist and designer launched his first collection for G-Star during Paris Men's Fashion Week titled Raw Research. He will continue to design for his eponymous brand.
