Giorgio Armani Cancels Men’s, Haute Couture Shows As Omicron Infections Rise

The move to call off the shows follows a decision by the British Fashion Council to skip its January London Fashion Week event due to Covid-19 uncertainties.

The Italian fashion company cited rising rates of Covid-19 infections across Europe as the reason for cancelling its Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani and Giorgio Armani Privé fashion shows, which were due to take place this January at Milan Fashion Week Men’s and Paris Haute Couture Week.

The move follows a similar decision taken in December by the British Fashion Council, which said it would skip its January London Fashion Week event due to Covid-19 uncertainties.

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI) confirmed that the broader Milan Fashion Week event will still go ahead, while adhering to the government’s Covid-19 regulations. In a statement, CNMI Chairman Carlo Capasa acknowledged “there may be some changes to the calendar of the Fashion Week” over the next few days.

Back in 2020, Giorgio Armani was the first major fashion brand to cancel its show in response to the coronavirus crisis, uninviting show-goers from its mainline runway presentation at the last minute as fears around an outbreak of the virus in Milan escalated. The company presented its collection to an empty venue, live-streaming the event on its website and social media channels.
